Shipments – defined as the volume of vehicles delivered to dealers, distributors, or directly to retail and fleet customers – were 13% higher than last year over the three months to 30 September at 1.3m.

The company, which owns 14 auto brands including Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, Fiat, Jeep, Maserati, Peugeot and Vauxhall, shipped 403,000 units in the North America region, helped by the normalisation of inventory dynamics after stockpiles were reduced the prior year which temporarily reduced production.

Strong growth was also reported in the Middle East and Africa, where shipments rose 21% to 94,000, and Asia where they grew 7% to 15,000. Over in Europe, Stellantis's largest division, deliveries were up 8% at 534,000.

However, shipments fell 3% in South America to 252,000. Meanwhile, the company's Maserati brand, which it reports separately, saw 19% drop in shipments to 1,700.

The stock was up 1% at €9.32 by 1129 in Milan, while US-listed shares were up 2.5% at $10.85 in pre-market trade on Wall Street.
