Sainsbury's to offer lower prices for Nectar card holders

UK supermarket chain Sainsbury’s has started offering lower prices for members of its Nectar loyalty card scheme in the latest battle to win customers amid the cost-of-living crisis.

The company is following Tesco, Britain’s biggest supermarket group, which offered the same deal for members of its Clubcard scheme, and is in response to strong challenges for market share from German discounters Aldi and Lidl.

Under the new plans, the ‘Nectar Prices’ scheme will offer discounts on more than 300 items. Customers using a self-scan shop system have been offered reduced prices on a very small number of goods since 2021.

Deals include Nescafé Gold Blend instant coffee for £4 rather than £8.10 and Heinz baked beans at 95p a can instead of £1.40. Items on offer will be marked with a Nectar Price label visible on the shelf edge in-store or next to each product online as part of the scheme, Sainsbury's said.
