Aeroflot, Russia's national carrier, did not provide further details about the cause of the problem or just how long it was expected to take to resolve. However, departure boards at Sheremetyevo airport turned red as dozens of flights were cancelled.

The Kremlin confirmed that Aeroflot's woes were the result of a hack and that prosecutors had opened a criminal investigation into the attack.

An alleged statement from Silent Crow said it had carried out the operation in conjunction with a Belarusian group known as Cyberpartisans BY. "Glory to Ukraine! Long live Belarus!" said the statement.

The statement also noted that the cyberattack was the result of a year-long operation, destroyed 7,000 servers, and gave it access to the PCs of senior managers. Additionally, Silent Crow threatened to start releasing "the personal data of all Russians who have ever flown Aeroflot".

Silent Crow previously claimed responsibility for attacks on a Russian real estate database, a state telecoms company, a large insurance firm, Moscow's IT department and the Russian office of South Korean car maker KIA.
