The 17-tonne vehicle, which will be sold on Saturday 14 September, is entitled Turbo Zone Truck (Laugh Now But One Day We’ll Be in Charge) and it is the largest-ever work created by Banksy, with a painted surface area of 80 square metres.

It is expected to fetch between £1,000,000-1,500,000 ($1,300,000-2,000,000), reflecting the work’s importance, and comes accompanied by a Certificate of Authentication issued by Pest Control, Banksy’s studio.

The piece is from the year 2000 which is before his name became famous worldwide in 2006.

Images on the truck show the silhouette of a male figure swinging a hammer towards metal cogs with flying monkeys and red stars depicted in the background, with the word ‘circus’ stencilled on the back.

A group of soldiers running away from a cannon can be seen on the other side of the truck.

Ralph Taylor, Bonhams Global Head of Post-War & Contemporary Art, said: “Banksy is arguably the most important artist to have emerged since the millennium and this, his largest commercial work, represents a new high watermark of quality for works of his to appear at auction.

“The composition bears all the hallmarks of this peerless agent provocateur. Bonhams is thrilled to have the opportunity to continue offering the best of his work at auction as we have done consistently for well over a decade.”

BREXIT MURAL DISAPPEARANCE

Recently one of Banksy’s famous pieces, the Brexit mural where a workman is chiseling away at a star in the European Union flag mysteriously disappeared from the building in Dover where it was.

The mural adorned the Castle Amusements building since 2017 and it was gone over the period of one weekend.

It is not yet clear whether the Brexit-themed mural was taken away or painted over.
